The Social Poets: New York Times Un-American To Criticize Olympics Athlete Lolo Jones Before Race

The Social Poets: New York Times Un-American To Criticize Olympics Athlete Lolo Jones Before Race: From Denny:  Now we enter the den of The Media Stupid, courtesy of the compromised New York Times. There seems to be a rather nasty bunch of writers over there these days, a sharp detour away from the stable of interesting intellectuals they once sported.

The current group has too many members who are all about plagiarizing letters to the editor (like what happened to me one too many times so I quit reading them years ago, then started up my own pack of blogs as a copyrighted version of letters to the editor.  Hey, it works for me.)

Their other favorite tactic now is ripping an Olympic athlete just days before competition.  How un-American can you get to criticize any athlete representing your country just before competition?

The Social Poets: Romney: What Is It About American Republican Presidential Candidates Are So Socially Awkward?

The Social Poets: Romney: What Is It About American Republican Presidential Candidates Are So Socially Awkward?: From Denny:  What is it about how the Republicans keep putting up one bad candidate after another?  The whole point of interacting with other world leaders is to cultivate at least the veneer of a polished and smooth sociability.

Obama has that "X" Factor - at least on the surface - and Mitt Romney decidedly does not have it - on the surface or deeper.  George Bush 43 didn't have it at all either.  He was downright vacuous.  Even nice Ike Eisenhower was known for his salty language and terribly confused communication, comprised of broken disjointed sentences, that the press was forever cleaning up before delivering his message to the public.

Yet America keeps on electing the socially awkward and the relationship insensitive.  Looks like Romney is well on his way to the White House.  He sure is trotting around the globe this past week meeting with world leaders like a trial run.  And the Obama presidency was an anomaly that looks like it is soon to be corrected by disgruntled voters.

The Social Poets: GOP Plans To Axe Food Stamps For Over 150 Million Americans

The Social Poets: GOP Plans To Axe Food Stamps For Over 150 Million Americans: From Denny:  Over 46 million households in America depend upon the food stamp benefits program to put enough food on the table to feed their families.

If each household is a family of four then you are looking at maybe as many as 184 million Americans.  That is over half to two-thirds of America in need of help to eat each day.  No one said it meant three meals a day either.

It does not seem to matter to the GOP and Congress that these same Americans have contributed as taxpayers to support these programs.  Now, the unthinkable for the majority of them is to draw food stamps benefits.  They have no choice; the economy is that bad.

Many active duty military to retirees use $100 million in food stamps benefits.  Are the Republicans just out of control crazy to do this to them and the rest of America?  What is wrong with these people?

Dennys: News Politics Comedy Science Arts & Food: Fun St. Patricks Day Facts To Ponder While You Swill Green Beer: From Denny:  Mardi Gras just happened last month, and, well, Lent can be a dull affair while we are waiting for Easter.  So, why not spice it up with some St. Patrick's Day frivolity and celebration?

South Louisiana is primarily Catholic and we like our champion demon-chasing warrior saints. Honoring him is serious business.

Here in Louisiana we celebrate with none other than a St. Patrick's Day Parade, complete with official bead-throwing and green beer freely flowing.

Since all good holy days have a serious component along with the feasting here's some brain food to feed you too.  Be sure to check out my other St. Patrick's Day posts at the end of this post.  Lots of interesting historical trivia, quotes, poems, Irish blessings and funny thoughts too.

The Social Poets: Funny Late Nite Jokes About GOP Rick Santorum

The Social Poets: Funny Late Nite Jokes About GOP Rick Santorum: From Denny: At the beginning of this leap year month it was "Rick Santorum -who?!" In just the past two weeks he climbed the GOP primary charts. With that sudden rise in popularity came the late night jokes to prove he was noticed by national voters.

Of course, never mind he achieved that notice by screaming out the most weirdo conservative positions. He took a page out of the Gingrich Playbook. If it worked for him, maybe it would work for Santorum.

Then came the rambling undisciplined speeches from Santorum that left the voters wondering what he said. Republican political strategists wildly started pulling out their already thinning hair at the notion of Santorum making it to their convention.

Forget my fellow journalists. The best guys to vett any political candidates are the comedians in my book. Since I'm the publishing and journalism industry's dreaded hybrid they have yet to catch up to or understand, - a journalist blogger - I'm delivering the unvarnished truth to my loyal readers with a dash of spicy opinion and a liberal dose of humor. After all, who said we can't enjoy some funnies along with our consideration of who we will consider not voting for in the November election?

The Social Poets: President's Day Flash Mob: Seniors Take To The Streets, Sing Patriotic Songs

The Social Poets: President's Day Flash Mob: Seniors Take To The Streets, Sing Patriotic Songs: From Denny: You know it isn't cool any more when the old guys adopt the younger generation's culture like flash mobs. :)

Seriously, this was a group of seniors from the World War 2 generation that remember growing up in the tough economic times of the Great Depression.

They also remember how they used to pick up their spirits - and those around them - by singing in groups their favorite patriotic songs on holidays like President's Day.

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: 12 Funny Quotes About Prayer

Bird Song!

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: 12 Funny Quotes About Prayer: From Denny: Prayer is a wonderful thing. It can bring us comfort, calm our fears and inspire us. It's also quite amusing to view it in terms of the human condition called "whining." There is also "bargaining." Once you grow past those two obvious pitfalls you discover "peaceful communion."

Dragonfly red hat, photo by Suzanne Plunkett/Reuters

Visual Insights: Whimsical Funny Hats At Ascot Ladies Day: "From Denny:  Check out the outrageously fun and whimsically styled hats women were sporting today at the Ascot Racecourse near London on Ladies Day.  It's held on the third day of racing during the Royal Ascot meet and is considered the highlight of the week at the track.

It's sort of like wearing a high class clown suit but everyone admires you, your creativity - and your daring to be the spectacle of public ridicule and laughter -  for wearing such a creation."

Funny Relationship Issues Cartoons, Remember Your Special People Memorial Day

From Denny: These cartoons will really get you thinking about your current - or, uh, er, past relationships. It sure takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, doesn't it? A little light humor based off reality is just the ticket for a way to ease into a long holiday weekend...

Strange Brew

Have a great Memorial Day holiday, chill out to shed yourself of some stress, enjoying some time with family and friends. Be sure to lift your glass to toast those who came before us, sacrificing their lives for our freedom during war time or those who sacrificed as good friends to help keep us balanced in the mundane places of life. Take time to remember the best people in your life and celebrate them this special holiday.

While the oil and gas industry reports record profits this past year to the tune of billions of billions, America still can't convince the GOP to spend money to repair highways and crumbling bridges.  Hey! Let's just wait for a huge bridge to collapse and all gather together to watch it on CNN.  Then we will complain that someone should have done something and then vote in the very someone who refuses to do anything about the problem.
