A Truth Journal: Jon Stewart Hammers Vet Affairs Failing to Break 1 Million Claims Logjam: From Denny: While other equally pressing news stories push to the front of the public's attention - like Israel attacking idiot terrorist-supporting Syria and the tragic Boston marathon bombing by less experienced terrorists - the very soldiers who fought America's terrorism wars are told to wait for help by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs.
Granted the VA does process around one million claims a year, all this while in the midst of trying to change over from an outdated dinosaur 1970's paper culture and advance into the digital age. Currently, they are looking at another two years before believing they will have arrived in said digital age. Let's get real; multiple that by ten and the estimate might be near accurate.

From Denny: These are outrageous times. To really save the post office and pull it out of huge debt is to start sending snail mail cards, letters and packages. Really? Well, yeah, that obvious tactic would work and is a sensible one. After all, the post office lost over $1 billion just in the last quarter of 2012 - and that included the holiday season of which they apparently did not get much of a share of the business.
But what debt answer would be a lot more creative and fun? Comic Jimmy Kimmel has the answer. He advocates the President legalize marijuana and then put the U.S. Post Office to be the only guys who can deliver it. Outrageous? Maybe, uh, hmmm.... it's actually a monopoly idea that would work! Yay! Capitalism at work! :)
That aside - because we know it will never happen - then how about Kimmel's latest answer to the real world U. S. Post Office Gear the agency is planning to sell? The agency has teamed with a Cleveland supplier for post office uniform wear that might prove useful as a Halloween costume - or stealing social security checks out of mailboxes from trusting elderly folks.
We all know that the cosmetic industry is a multi-billion dollar happy place. Kimmel suggests "why not sell a fragrance" promoted by the post office? Here Jimmy Kimmel promotes "Manila" as the upscale new fragrance to hit the market place. Enjoy your grin as you coast into the weekend. Ah... that feels better, now doesn't it?

From Denny: Cookie Monster is in trouble - again! His alleged cookie addiction could cost him some time behind bars if he doesn't get a lenient judge who can sympathize with his plight. Of course, an extortion letter to a German newspaper may not prove to be helpful. German police are investigating. You see, Cookie Monster has now made Bahlsen, a popular German cookie maker in Hanover, Germany, world famous with his alleged theft of their trademark iconic giant golden cookie sign, a gilded bronze sculpture. It's been reported in America and across The Pond in the UK and Europe. Cookie Monster allegedly claimed responsibility for the sneaky theft. His demand letter? CM allegedly wants Bahlsen to deliver free cookies to children's hospitals. If they agree to do this good deed, CM is willing to return their giant golden cookie sign unharmed. That sounds reasonable. The ransom letter to Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ) newspaper translated into English: "I have the cookie! And you want it." The letter was a clever compilation of letters from magazine and newspaper cuttings. OK, it was a standard issue extortion letter. Cookie Monster was in a hurry and was running to meet the mail carrier before he missed the mail pick-up for the day.
CM is allegedly quite specific as to the variety of cookies to be delivered to the children's hospitals. He wants Bahlsen's Leibniz biscuits, preferably the whole milk variety.
Of course, the German authorities are trying to run down this cookie theft and whether it really was Cookie Monster. You see, CM is claiming on Twitter he is not the true culprit. Gasp! Maybe CM was photo shopped? Can it be true he is the victim of a vicious cookie scam? The next day another letter was received at Bahlsen with the same demands. Their legal department did not know if the letter was genuine. The understandably anonymous spokeswoman commented, "If I could answer that question, I'd be smarter than the police [who are investigating authenticity]. The whole things is not a marketing campaign, our company, no way." Police say witnesses saw two men with a ladder in the vicinity of the cookie sign earlier this month. Could they have been hired by CM? So far, CM isn't saying nor have the police found the alleged sign thieves. Bahlsen is offering 1,000 Euros for information leading to the recovery of their iconic cookie sign. The reward will be donated to the animal shelter Krähenwinkel in Langenhagen.
By the way, the cookie company has also pledged to give 52,000 packs of Leibniz biscuits to 52 social institutions - if the cookie sign is returned unharmed.

The Social Poets: Funny Obama Inauguration Photo Bombs and Late Nite Jokes: From Denny: Since President Obama's second inauguration the web has had a lot of fun with the various amusing inauguration photos - including a few hilarious photo bombs, most unintentional. President Clinton's is the most recognized but the funniest are of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) hamming it up for recognition.
And the late night comics just had to make us laugh at every moment, especially comments about the First Lady Eye Roll at annoying GOP House Speaker John Boehner.
We all enjoy a good laugh when we discover our politicians are more human than they let on in front of most cameras and on talk shows.
Just check out this latest photo (January 2013) of the President running along the White House Colonnade with the active children of his newest Chief of Staff, Denis McDonough. Give it 20 years and we may see one of the McDonough kids running for the presidency. Nothing like getting in some election run practice with a presidential veteran!
Sec. Clinton handled herself with diplomacy, strength of conviction and principles - and smart political maneuvering. She's ready for a run in 2016. And these idiot Republicans may just have given her cause to do so. Those guys never learn.

From Denny: Well, folks like me with the last name "Lyon" pay close attention to all things "lion" and this hilarious viral video was no exception. It's a natural just like this awwww, too cute lion dog, Charles the Monarch.
Instead of laughing hard and moving on to start my day I decided it was about time I start sharing these funny videos. There is just something about this dog that warms your heart. 2 video clips here.
In honor of funny lion dog, Charles the Monarch, says: Make Merry and Carry On!
He's a Labradoodle (part Labrador Retriever, part Poodle) that has his stylish haircut in the way of a maned male lion. Charles managed to prank passing motorists in Norfolk, Virginia, who were convinced a real baby lion was on the loose from the local zoo. The first caller into the Norfolk 911 center was reported to be calm about their sighting:
The man: "I'd like to report a lion sighting."
The caught off guard dispatcher: "Say that again?!"
Of course, as a casual observer of all things "lion" since I was a kid - complete with a bedroom sign that said "Lyon's Den: Keep Out!" - and got tagged with the moniker of "Cat Eyes" at middle school - I saw the same file footage and instantly knew it was really a cute dog.
FYI for the serious crowd: Lions don't wag their tails like a dog, don't run or walk with the body language of a dog - more loose jointed like a house cat, and, most definitely, the males don't grow a mane until they are well past "puppyhood." Don't even get me started on people who don't recognize curly poodle fur... :)
The lion dog Charles the Monarch has my complete support to run for the Virginia Senate. Charles could easily replace Congressman Eric Cantor since he is plenty rich enough after employing insider trading for many years to fluff up his bank account. After all, according to many recent polls, Congress is less popular than cockroaches since they are viewed as worse than dirty dawgs.
Charles would lend a royal air to the place and certainly upgrade the attitude of both Congress and the American public. Everyone raise their paws who wants to contribute to his SuperPac dedicated to great haircuts for all and demanding more play time on the White House lawn.
Check out Charles' owner-manager, Daniel Painter, at Daniel's Lawn & Garden Center for more details of his upcoming political campaign. Charles the Monarch is known to be seen frolicking freely around the garden center, greeting customers. It was his fun-loving manager's idea to give Charles a haircut to resemble Virginia's Old Dominion University mascot. Charles has certainly captured the public's imagination with his video going viral.

Charles is a natural retail style politician. Hey, speaking of retail politicians like VP Joe Biden, Charles could be Biden's VP when he runs in 2016. Now that would give the Republicans something to talk about on silly and irrelevant Fox News that might actually be interesting and news worthy! :)
Lion dog Charles also has a facebook page, now with almost 2,400 followers and counting. I tell ya, this political dog is on the move!

From Denny: Check out this fun-loving and fun retired cop that still directs traffic in Rhode Island. Tony Lepore, age 65, aspired to be a performer but the opportunities were slim when he was young.
Yet, here he is, appreciated and enjoyed by millions all these years later. Today he is involved with a troupe that travels, doing lots of shows. Sometimes, you just never know how your life will turn out.
Kudos to Tony for some fabulous dance moves that intrigued the news staff, an inspiration to older Americans to get exercising and an all around positive attitude to keep you going - even through life's disappointments. Enjoy Tony's holiday tradition he's been performing for over 20 years now.
