Comic Jimmy Kimmels Plan To Save The U.S. Post Office

From Denny:  These are outrageous times.  To really save the post office and pull it out of huge debt is to start sending snail mail cards, letters and packages.  Really?  Well, yeah, that obvious tactic would work and is a sensible one. After all, the post office lost over $1 billion just in the last quarter of 2012 - and that included the holiday season of which they apparently did not get much of a share of the business.

But what debt answer would be a lot more creative and fun?  Comic Jimmy Kimmel has the answer.  He advocates the President legalize marijuana and then put the U.S. Post Office to be the only guys who can deliver it.  Outrageous?  Maybe, uh, hmmm.... it's actually a monopoly idea that would work!  Yay! Capitalism at work!  :)

That aside - because we know it will never happen - then how about Kimmel's latest answer to the real world U. S. Post Office Gear the agency is planning to sell?  The agency has teamed with a Cleveland supplier for post office uniform wear that might prove useful as a Halloween costume - or stealing social security checks out of mailboxes from trusting elderly folks.

We all know that the cosmetic industry is a multi-billion dollar happy place.  Kimmel suggests "why not sell a fragrance" promoted by the post office?  Here Jimmy Kimmel promotes "Manila" as the upscale new fragrance to hit the market place.  Enjoy your grin as you coast into the weekend.  Ah... that feels better, now doesn't it?

Cookie Monster Hunted By German Police: Alleged Golden Cookie Theft

This photo from German newspaper 'Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung' shows a big blue 'Cookie Monster' with a giant golden biscuit which has been stolen from the Bahlsen biscuit company - it was part of the company's trademark sign. It came with a letter (right) claiming responsibility for the theft and demanding the company deliver free cookies to children's hospitals to get it back.
source:  Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung

From Denny:  Cookie Monster is in trouble - again!  His alleged cookie addiction could cost him some time behind bars if he doesn't get a lenient judge who can sympathize with his plight. Of course, an extortion letter to a German newspaper may not prove to be helpful.  German police are investigating.

You see, Cookie Monster has now made Bahlsen, a popular German cookie maker in Hanover, Germany, world famous with his alleged theft of their trademark iconic giant golden cookie sign, a gilded bronze sculpture.  It's been reported in America and across The Pond in the UK and Europe.

Cookie Monster allegedly claimed responsibility for the sneaky theft.  His demand letter?  CM allegedly wants Bahlsen to deliver free cookies to children's hospitals.  If they agree to do this good deed, CM is willing to return their giant golden cookie sign unharmed.  That sounds reasonable.

The ransom letter to Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ) newspaper translated into English:  "I have the cookie!  And you want it."  The letter was a clever compilation of letters from magazine and newspaper cuttings.  OK, it was a standard issue extortion letter.  Cookie Monster was in a hurry and was running to meet the mail carrier before he missed the mail pick-up for the day.

Cookie Monster
Cookie Monster (Photo credit: GooWakJai)
CM is allegedly quite specific as to the variety of cookies to be delivered to the children's hospitals.  He wants Bahlsen's Leibniz biscuits, preferably the whole milk variety.

Of course, the German authorities are trying to run down this cookie theft and whether it really was Cookie Monster.  You see, CM is claiming on Twitter he is not the true culprit.  Gasp!  Maybe CM was photo shopped?  Can it be true he is the victim of a vicious cookie scam?

The next day another letter was received at Bahlsen with the same demands.  Their legal department did not know if the letter was genuine.  The understandably anonymous spokeswoman commented, "If I could answer that question, I'd be smarter than the police [who are investigating authenticity].  The whole things is not a marketing campaign, our company, no way."

Police say witnesses saw two men with a ladder in the vicinity of the cookie sign earlier this month.  Could they have been hired by CM?  So far, CM isn't saying nor have the police found the alleged sign thieves.  Bahlsen is offering 1,000 Euros for information leading to the recovery of their iconic cookie sign.  The reward will be donated to the animal shelter Krähenwinkel in Langenhagen.

By the way, the cookie company has also pledged to give 52,000 packs of Leibniz biscuits to 52 social institutions - if the cookie sign is returned unharmed.

Check back with this blog often.  We will keep you apprised of this fluid situation as it develops.

The Social Poets: Funny Obama Inauguration Photo Bombs and Late Nite Jokes

Obama Inauguration Jokes

The Social Poets: Funny Obama Inauguration Photo Bombs and Late Nite Jokes: From Denny:  Since President Obama's second inauguration the web has had a lot of fun with the various amusing inauguration photos - including a few hilarious photo bombs, most unintentional.  President Clinton's is the most recognized but the funniest are of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) hamming it up for recognition.

And the late night comics just had to make us laugh at every moment, especially comments about the First Lady Eye Roll at annoying GOP House Speaker John Boehner.

We all enjoy a good laugh when we discover our politicians are more human than they let on in front of most cameras and on talk shows.

Just check out this latest photo (January 2013) of the President running along the White House Colonnade with the active children of his newest Chief of Staff, Denis McDonough.  Give it 20 years and we may see one of the McDonough kids running for the presidency.  Nothing like getting in some election run practice with a presidential veteran!

The Social Poets: Romney: What Is It About American Republican Presidential Candidates Are So Socially Awkward?

Romney

The Social Poets: Romney: What Is It About American Republican Presidential Candidates Are So Socially Awkward?: From Denny:  What is it about how the Republicans keep putting up one bad candidate after another?  The whole point of interacting with other world leaders is to cultivate at least the veneer of a polished and smooth sociability.

Obama has that "X" Factor - at least on the surface - and Mitt Romney decidedly does not have it - on the surface or deeper.  George Bush 43 didn't have it at all either.  He was downright vacuous.  Even nice Ike Eisenhower was known for his salty language and terribly confused communication, comprised of broken disjointed sentences, that the press was forever cleaning up before delivering his message to the public.

Yet America keeps on electing the socially awkward and the relationship insensitive.  Looks like Romney is well on his way to the White House.  He sure is trotting around the globe this past week meeting with world leaders like a trial run.  And the Obama presidency was an anomaly that looks like it is soon to be corrected by disgruntled voters.

The Social Poets: Im Just Saying: Funny Way 4 U.S. Govt 2 Handle Mexican Drug Smugglers: From Denny:  Take a peek inside a living room as Middle Class America watches the news, offering up outrageous solutions to the nation's ills.

For decades, Mexican drug smugglers have been devising all kinds of effective methods to penetrate the American coastline.  The news anchor seems to think the various government agencies have proven effective at containing the Mexican drug smugglers on land.

Lately - yes, this is a real news story - the smugglers have turned to retrofitting simple Mexican fishing boats with multiple engines to skim across the water so fast you might blink your eyes and miss them.

Apparently, the Coast Guard and other government agencies working in unison, are on watch every night, seeking out the more than several dozen runs by the smugglers all along the California coastline.

This news clip shows how the law enforcement agencies are successful, and arresting all kinds of smugglers, all lined up for The Perp Walk.

Yeah, Middle America is sitting on the couch taking it all in, fidgeting with the remote, when a stellar idea pops into their heads.  All that arrest business sure is a lot of unnecessary work.  We have a more effective solution of how to deal with these cheesy Mexican smugglers.

Ouch Outrageous Obnoxious and Odd: Close Encounter Planes Fly Over Your Beach Vacation: From Denny: Check out just how low these planes are when they come in for a landing over Maho Beach at St. Maarten Princess Juliana International Airport in the Caribbean. People actually go to vacation here just to experience the dangerous jet blasts from the landings.

In the second video you will see people falling down on the sand and get blasted by what looks like a mini sand storm. Be sure to bring your safety glasses with you when you go to experience this new cheap thrill for tourists! :)

Calling In Sick To Your Boss: 15 Funniest New Excuses

Claiming your young daughter stole your car is just one of many bizarre excuses to miss work.
From Denny:  When you don't feel like going in to work, pull out your little Black Book Of Funny Excuses.  Well, there is a new edition in town since a career survey was conducted.

During the colder weather of autumn and winter most people call in sick due to illness like colds and flu.  Illness accounts for 39 percent of employees missing in action, according to the survey.

But then there are the creative types who just want an excuse to spend more time with their families.  Others just want to spend more time in bed because the weather is too crappy to deal with.  Or the procrastinators realize they need to get in some last minute holiday shopping.

So, what hilarious excuses are this generation of employees offering up as savory mind candy to their bosses?  If I were their boss I would give them the day off just for creativity and the boldness to try to sell something so absolutely ridiculous.

15 Funniest New Excuses for Calling In Sick to Your Boss

1) My 12-year-old daughter stole my car that was my only way to get to work.  He was reluctant to report his daughter's (imaginary) theft to the police.

2) Bats got in my hair and you know how crazy bats can get doing ugly things to your hair.

3) Uh, a refrigerator fell on me.

4) I stopped to get my morning coffee on the way to work.  While I was in line I saw a dump truck drive up that was full of flour and saw it back into my convertible and empty said flour into my car.

5) It's hunting season and a deer bit me.

6) I ate too much at a weekend party.

7) I was in such a hurry to get to work while I was still half asleep from the time change that I fell out of bed and broke my nose this morning.

8) I got a cold from my new puppy.

9) My toddler thought it was funny to stick a mint up his nose so I had to go to the ER to get it removed.

10) I hurt my back while I was chasing a beaver. (a little double meaning on that one)

11) When I got out of bed this morning to come to work I accidentally got my toe caught in the heat register vent cover.

12) I couldn't come to work this morning because of all the garage sales I went to this weekend.  They gave me a bad headache.

13) I couldn't come to work this morning because I got a call from the FBI informing me that my brother-in-law was kidnapped by a drug cartel while visiting Mexico.

14) This morning I drank anti-freeze by mistake and had to go to the hospital.

15) This weekend I went to a bowling alley.  I got hit on the head by a bucket of water that crashed through the ceiling because they had a leak at the bowling alley and the bucket overflowed.

Funny Daily Show Comic John Oliver Interviews Occupy Wall Street Protesters

John Oliver, photo taken on October 11, 2009, ...                        Image via Wikipedia

From Denny:  The Daily Show's British comic, John Oliver, goes out into the Occupy Wall Street crowd to try and identify with their emerging culture.  Over 57 percent of America agrees with this protest.  But, John Oliver asks, do we have what it takes to be a part of this protest?

Oliver explores the odd hand language that has emerged during the movement.  It seems strange to wriggle your fingers in the air, either up for approval, down for disapproval or wriggling in the middle zone for "not real crazy about that idea, folks."

The truth is these are some clever folks.  They have created inventive ways around the New York City restrictions on noise levels, no use of amplification devices and the like officials have tried to use against them to discourage and hamper the protests.  All it has done is grow the protest crowds - and stretch their imagination.

Oliver still has trouble with the costumes the protesters are sporting, unable to identify completely with them.  So, Oliver moves on "to normal people" at a pub and pops in to share a beer with them.  After much opinionated discussion they all agree with the protesters - but don't join them because there is a football game to watch.

And many Americans wonder why our politics don't change the state of the disappearing middle class.  Perhaps, we only have our navel-gazing selves to blame?

Check out this video clip as you will enjoy the humor as Oliver discovers what it takes to make it day to day as an Occupy Wall Street protester.

Tuesday October 18, 2011

John Oliver wants to be part of the Occupy Wall Street movement, but there's something about the protesters that makes it hard for him to fit in.

The Social Poets: Jon Stewart Ridicules GOP Mocking Most Of America

The Social Poets: Jon Stewart Ridicules GOP Mocking Most Of America: From Denny: Jon Stewart hits it out of the ball park yet again. Here he pulls together copious news clips of the GOP's rallying cry to the American public to "go out into the streets and take back America." Much to their chagrin Americans are doing just that. It's called Occupy Wall Street protests.

Only problem is that they are the 80 percent of the country the Republicans love to hate: the middle class, liberals, progressives, labor unions, gays, the unemployed, students who graduated and can't find jobs... you know, most of the country.

One of the clips is especially funny where the GOP tries to sell their tired "class warfare" whine: "It's not nice to pit millionaires against billionaires." That's as crazy as Mitt Romney's recent, "Corporations are people too."

Who ARE these people voted into Congress anyway? We should relabel them from politicians to The Outrageous Who Suck Wall Street Assets.

Funny Halloween Town Names in America

Scary PumpkinImage by solyanka via FlickrFrom Denny:  Want to scare your pants off with a new address?  Who knew that a town's name could be so creepy - just in time for Halloween.

This comprehensive Halloween list was compiled by the folks over at AccuracyProject.org.  Some of these town names are directly associated with Halloween while others were not intentionally so but sure look like a good fit.  Some towns no longer exist or are virtual true ghost towns as they have dwindled down to just a few buildings or are completely abandoned.

Look at it this way, if you are a teacher this fun list will help motivate your students to enjoy geography class during the holiday season! For people who like to meander around on educational sites, check out AccuracyProject.org.

Some of the funnier names are Hell Hollow, Half Hell (now how do you get just half of Hell??) and Little Hell, towns found in three different states.  It just goes to show you that no matter how far we live apart our thinking is pretty much the same!

The Social Poets: Jon Stewart Interviews Boomerang Author Michael Lewis About Global Big Banks Disaster

The Social Poets: Jon Stewart Interviews Boomerang Author Michael Lewis About Global Big Banks Disaster: From Denny: This author decided to go on a walkabout. Actually, Michael Lewis went on a financial disaster tour of several European countries: Iceland, Ireland, Greece and Germany.

He wanted to view the global financial disaster through the prism of each culture and what a view he got. (He is also the author of Moneyball that was recently made into a movie.)

In Iceland he discovered that up until seven years ago the only way to make money in Iceland was fishing. But, seven years ago," the men literally walked off the fishing boats and walked into the banks deciding to become currency traders in a matter of days."

Funny Video: The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger

Mellivora capensis (Prague ZOO)Image via WikipediaFrom Denny:  Over 19 million people laughed off their chairs at the narration of this honey badger video.  This is one fierce animal, so fierce it attacks cobra snakes head on and bites off their heads.  Unbelievable.

Who needs the pesticide Snake Away when you can adopt a honey badger?  Just keep your dogs and cats inside when this beast prowls the neighborhood.

What's more funny is how here in Louisiana one of our LSU Tigers got tagged with the name Honey Badger It Takes What It Wants:  Tyrann Mathieu.  They used to call him T-Rex for his prowess on the field even though he is small by football standards.

Like LSU Coach Les Miles says, "Never judge a person by their size but by the fight in them."  Mathieu has been known to out jump those a good foot taller than him to catch the ball.  Unbelievable. Yep, the Honey Badger rules on the LSU football field.

First, check out the funny viral video of the actual honey badger and his hunting skills.  Then see the human Honey Badger from the nationally number one ranked team this season, the LSU Tigers.  An LSU fan used the narration from the honey badger video over clips of Tyrann Mathieu plays from last year (when he was #14) and this year (where he is #7 jersey).

You will not be able to stop laughing at this crazy video.

LSU Tiger Tyrann Mathieu is now tagged as The Honey Badger "that takes what he wants"

Check out the honey badger narration paired with the LSU plays by Mathieu:

Ouch Outrageous Obnoxious and Odd: Funny Video: Comic Mocks Russians and Cops Gone Wild:

From Denny: Can this crazy video get any wilder or weirder? Over 6 million on YouTube laughed. It's the comics fast-paced commentary on the various videos he finds, starting off with one of a pack of Russians practicing martial arts and screwing up royally.

One Russian decides to warm up by an open fire and catches fire. Then the comic slows down the video to show you the crass surprise of how it happened. A total fail that is not to be missed. Who needs fiction when real life is a lot funnier?
