A Truth Journal: Veterans Affairs Claims Logjam: Should Prez Obama Declare National Emergency?

Veteran Suicide Rate

A Truth Journal: Veterans Affairs Claims Logjam: Should Prez Obama Declare National Emergency?: From Denny:  There's a wonderful reason my husband is nicknamed "Satan" at our house.  Most times it's because he specializes in being the most annoying irritating person on the planet because it's his idea of fun when he gets bored - while he is the only person laughing. There are those times when Home "Satan" comes up with a wickedly good idea. "Satan" proposed it is past due time for President Obama to issue an executive order to declare a temporary suspension of all federal workers' rights and pay who work in the Veterans Affairs Administration until the claims logjam is accomplished.

Shocking, isn't it?  What's more shocking is how many veterans are committing suicide as a result of the VA falling down on the job.  Let the unions and the courts sort it out later.  As President, Mr. Obama should bring this call to action to pierce the logjam with a motivation for workers to keep their jobs.

A Truth Journal: Jon Stewart Hammers Vet Affairs Failing to Break 1 Million Claims Logjam

Veteran Suicide Rate

A Truth Journal: Jon Stewart Hammers Vet Affairs Failing to Break 1 Million Claims Logjam: From Denny:  While other equally pressing news stories push to the front of the public's attention - like Israel attacking idiot terrorist-supporting Syria and the tragic Boston marathon bombing by less experienced terrorists - the very soldiers who fought America's terrorism wars are told to wait for help by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs.

Granted the VA does process around one million claims a year, all this while in the midst of trying to change over from an outdated dinosaur 1970's paper culture and advance into the digital age.  Currently, they are looking at another two years before believing they will have arrived in said digital age.  Let's get real; multiple that by ten and the estimate might be near accurate.

Hurricane Vampire Survivor Mousepad
Hurricane Vampire Survivor Mousepad

The Social Poets: Hurricane Adventure: Cooking by Candlelight on the Bayou: From Denny:  Have you ever noticed that when you go off the grid your mind turns to comedy?  OK, during a hurricane the mind often slides on down toward dark humor.

After all, your brain is geared up to engage with technology and suddenly finds itself in total withdrawal.  And, it's a good thing that humor was created.  It's the best weapon in the human arsenal for survival.

I went off the grid for three days - and hot sweaty nights - during the very long week of Hurricane Isaac...

The Social Poets: The Whole Truth, Funny Jon Stewart On VP Joe Bidens Wall Street Financial Slavery Speech

English: Joe Biden, Vice President of the Unit...
English: Joe Biden, Vice President of the United States. Svenska: Joe Biden, amerikansk vicepresident. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
The Social Poets: The Whole Truth, Funny Jon Stewart On VP Joe Bidens Wall Street Financial Slavery Speech: From Denny:  Me thinks the conservative media doth protest too much.  Yep, they sure are laying it on thick for VP Papa Joe Biden's accurate comment about how the middle and working classes are chained into financial slavery because of the Big Banks and Big Business corporations that are clearly still out of control.

Since this is a nasty presidential campaign where all name-calling and outright lying is utilized by the GOP campaign in particular, they thought they could win some brownie points going after Affable Joe.

Yeah, like that silly attack stuck.  The man sports a Teflon suit, always has and always will.  He's been that popular with regular people - and Teflon fashionable for decades as a real public servant.

The media that jumps on him are the Lapdog Press - and political strategists - owned outright by the likes of the consummate puppeteers:  greedy billionaires like the Koch Brothers and Fox "News" Rupert Murdock.  Hollow opinions from the disingenuous contain no merit and certainly carry no weight with the voters, especially the elderly that trust Biden on issues like Medicare.

The Social Poets: What Obama and Romney Should Be Talking About: These 2 Sick Little Girls

Thank You

The Fish girls:  Alice, left and Natalie, right -  Source:  Fishes For Marrow Wishes-Sisters

The Social Poets: What Obama and Romney Should Be Talking About: These 2 Sick Little Girls: From Denny:  It's time to stop the madness along with the childish political campaign bickering.  Americans don't want to hear it anyway.  There are bigger issues at stake like the lives of these two seriously ill little girls from Utah, Natalie and Alice Fish.  In light of what this one American family is enduring should shame all the national politicians who are so self-absorbed they have not stopped long enough to notice.

I'm so disgusted with the 2012 election's childish name-calling tone and enabling media encouraging it that I change the channel constantly.  As a respite yesterday I went up on my page at Google + to catch up on those who friended me.

Well, it turned out these little Fish girls' parents friended me (that's a link to their Google+ page).  It's a good thing I always take the time to read a profile page or I might have missed this struggling life drama of a middle class family.  These little girls are real troopers and have been living in and out of hospitals since they were born.  Their parents are to be commended for going the distance with not just one child but now two with this rare problem.

The Social Poets: Rush Limbaugh: Liar, Liar, Pants On Fire About Advertisers Status

Rush Limbaugh - Caricature

The Social Poets: Rush Limbaugh: Liar, Liar, Pants On Fire About Advertisers Status: From Denny:  I'm with Jon Stewart.  Rush Limbaugh just keeps on giving the comedy material, serving it up on a silver platter. His latest gambit is to now challenge the logic about his advertisers' performance since they left his show or if they stayed.

Normal people call it irrational logic, you know, an oxymoron attempt by Rush.  Sometimes, this guy is just too much fun to lampoon.  It's as silly as the research scientists who decided after lengthy study that, "People die six months before or six months after their birthdays."  That stupid study must have been underwritten by Limbaugh.

Unusual 2 Tasty: Valentines Day: Warm Upside-Down Pear Cake With Tangerine Custard Sauce: From Denny: For pear lovers - and lovers - this is an outstanding dessert good enough for any holiday!

Romancing The Chocolate: National Chocolate Cake Day Today! 2 Recipes

Our most popular cake. Of course anything choc...
Image via Wikipedia
Romancing The Chocolate: National Chocolate Cake Day Today! 2 Recipes: From Denny: Like anyone had to inform the chocolate hounds that today is a special day. We all know we sure don't pay much attention to any other holiday - excepting Valentine's Day - 'cause only chocolate holidays rule. :)

What are the goals of National Chocolate Cake Day? The Obvious: bake and decorate a wonderful chocolate cake and then enjoy it with a few friends! Now that's what I call a plum assignment.

First off, everyone should have at least one basic good Simple Chocolate Sheet Cake in their bag of magic baking tricks. This will make you a big hit at family or sports gatherings - read that at tailgating too.

People can cut the small or large size they desire. Of course, the cake can end up looking like a bit of a messy disaster that way so usually most cooks choose to pre-cut the pieces. I usually cut mine into long fingers like 1-inch x 3-inches. The dieters (and the diabetics who are supposed to behave but can't) can slice that in half - and the Hungry Jacks can take two. Everyone is happy!

Then try the Mexican Chocolate Fudge Pecan Cake where cinnamon is added to a basic chocolate and buttermilk cake. Chocolate and cinnamon are natural pairings and the result is wonderful.

Calling In Sick To Your Boss: 15 Funniest New Excuses

Claiming your young daughter stole your car is just one of many bizarre excuses to miss work.
From Denny:  When you don't feel like going in to work, pull out your little Black Book Of Funny Excuses.  Well, there is a new edition in town since a career survey was conducted.

During the colder weather of autumn and winter most people call in sick due to illness like colds and flu.  Illness accounts for 39 percent of employees missing in action, according to the survey.

But then there are the creative types who just want an excuse to spend more time with their families.  Others just want to spend more time in bed because the weather is too crappy to deal with.  Or the procrastinators realize they need to get in some last minute holiday shopping.

So, what hilarious excuses are this generation of employees offering up as savory mind candy to their bosses?  If I were their boss I would give them the day off just for creativity and the boldness to try to sell something so absolutely ridiculous.

15 Funniest New Excuses for Calling In Sick to Your Boss

1) My 12-year-old daughter stole my car that was my only way to get to work.  He was reluctant to report his daughter's (imaginary) theft to the police.

2) Bats got in my hair and you know how crazy bats can get doing ugly things to your hair.

3) Uh, a refrigerator fell on me.

4) I stopped to get my morning coffee on the way to work.  While I was in line I saw a dump truck drive up that was full of flour and saw it back into my convertible and empty said flour into my car.

5) It's hunting season and a deer bit me.

6) I ate too much at a weekend party.

7) I was in such a hurry to get to work while I was still half asleep from the time change that I fell out of bed and broke my nose this morning.

8) I got a cold from my new puppy.

9) My toddler thought it was funny to stick a mint up his nose so I had to go to the ER to get it removed.

10) I hurt my back while I was chasing a beaver. (a little double meaning on that one)

11) When I got out of bed this morning to come to work I accidentally got my toe caught in the heat register vent cover.

12) I couldn't come to work this morning because of all the garage sales I went to this weekend.  They gave me a bad headache.

13) I couldn't come to work this morning because I got a call from the FBI informing me that my brother-in-law was kidnapped by a drug cartel while visiting Mexico.

14) This morning I drank anti-freeze by mistake and had to go to the hospital.

15) This weekend I went to a bowling alley.  I got hit on the head by a bucket of water that crashed through the ceiling because they had a leak at the bowling alley and the bucket overflowed.

Odd News: Girl Yawns In Boring Class, Cannot Close Her Mouth, Goes To Hospital

From Denny: OK, this is funny and not funny. Talk about downright strange. Have you ever yawned so much that you could not close your mouth - and jaw - back into position?

This college student was listening to a boring class lecture, let out a huge yawn, and then was terrified to discover she could not get her jaw back into position to close her mouth.

When your mouth is open that wide you can't talk, can't eat or drink. You can get dehydrated or even starve. Fortunately, a doctor knew exactly what to do for her by shoving a tall order of 26 tongue depressors into her gaping mouth. Then all they had to do was wait for her jaw muscles to get tired and then the doctor could set her jaw back into proper place.

Take a look at how this strange situation was handled to a successful conclusion. Well, one thing is for sure, she will definitely think twice about yawning when she is bored in a dull class.

Laughter Yoga Session among Prisoners in Udaipur, India

Prisoners practicing laughter yoga

From Denny: British comic John Cleese takes a trip to India to discover the medical benefits of Laughter Yoga and is struck by how transforming it is in people's lives. Laughter connects us all as human beings and melts away the emotional distance. There are many health benefits which I have posted here at The Healing Waters blog.

Laughter Yoga is an hilarious technique for getting your health back into balance, founded by Dr. Kadan Mataria of Mumbai. This exercise encourages deep breathing your body and your mind find beneficial. You are encouraged to laugh for absolutely no reason which is so ridiculous that laughter becomes contagious.

Funny Video: NYC Folate Carolers Flash Mob Sings Christmas

Funny and clever singing and dancing takes New Yorkers by happy surprise during Christmas season.

Christmas Carolers

From Denny: This is too funny. These "Folate Carolers" showed up as a flash mob experience for happy New Yorkers, busy snapping away camera phone photos to prove they were there. Turns out it's a promotion for women to remember to get enough Vitamin B12 "folate" in their diets. Apparently, 2 out of 3 women do not take in enough of the vitamin. Now this is what you call a very clever Public Service Announcement well done! :) What a great way to bring a smile to your day.
